Steampunk Aircraft by Holly-Mellor Steampunk Aircraft by Holly-Mellor
Hey guys, here is a piece I've been working on for the last couple of days. For the 30th Bi-weekly competition over at :iconconceptworld:, the topic was Punk Tech Aircraft. Here it is, hope you like it :)

Photoshop CS5
I would guesstimate around 7-8 hours
Here is a wip picture, I did originally have more but I've worked on this on 3 different computers during the process due to travelling! [link]

I know it would be amazing! Although I can imagine it being a bit of a bumpy ride. Thanks very much for all the favourites, much appreciated :)!

Wow. If those wings flap, I'd pay to see it in theaters.

Yeah that's what was in mind, I can't remember where I was inspired but I'm sure there is something similar like that somewhere!

I really like your colour palette on this and you really evoke the feel of steam punk.
If I was to crit anything it would be that the volume and form of your sails could be worked on to showcase their material and structure a little more. At the moment they feel a little bit heavier than I would imagine they should be. I think you could also play a little more with the perspective and depth in things like the floating balls....O.O (did I just say that? lol)....and the rear of the ship as their values at the moment don't diminish too much with distance. Things get lighter and less saturated as they fall into the distance and you can use this to great effect to showcase depth and perspective in things.
Nice stuff overall ! :)

Heya, thanks for the indepth comment. I totally agree, I couldn't get the sails to look any better and they look flat. Perhaps some studies will help me! About the floating balls :giggle:, I did give the whole less saturated thing ago but I think it still needs some work! Thanks again for the comment!

No worries....ya definitely do some studies or use reference. I challenge you to try something with sails at the next DASpeedpaint thing that fits :D
